About geography, climate and tourism
Tenerife is the largest and most famous among the Russian-speaking holidaymakers island of the Canary archipelago. Despite its relatively small size – just over 2000 sq. M. km, the nature here is very diverse. Above the island rises the Teide volcano, covered with a snow cap, pine forests stretch at its foot, and golden beaches stretch along the coast. In the south, they are heated by the hot sun for twelve months a year. The north also affects lush vegetation.
The volcanic ridge divides Tenerife into two parts – the northern and southern. In the first climate is cooler and damp. Rain here is not uncommon, as is the unexpected impenetrable fog. True, in an hour it can also suddenly be replaced by a bright sun. So the weather, though unpredictable, but still pleasant. In the south, it is always dry and sunny. For the year will be typed only a few cloudy days. No wonder Tenerife is called the Island of Eternal Spring. On average throughout the year there is warm and sunny weather. The temperature ranges from 20 to 26 ° C in winter and from 23 to 29 ° C in summer. So here you can safely come without looking at the calendar.
The pleasant climate, coupled with the low cost of living, attracts not only residents of mainland Spain, but also many foreigners to the island. Tourism began to develop here in the 19th century and today forms the basis of the regional economy. About 4 million tourists visit Tenerife annually. Moreover, many Europeans at the age of 40 willingly change the organized life in a noisy metropolis for a measured life in a pleasant subtropical climate.
This, in turn, ensures constant foreign demand for local real estate. Particularly popular is the south of the island in the area of the famous Playa de las Americas. Although it all depends on the personal preferences of the buyer …
About the main resorts of Tenerife
The island is divided into two parts not only climatically, but also by “specialization”. In the south of Tenerife is a paradise for lovers of chocolate tan and non-stop entertainment. The North is perfect for those who prefer a noisy party to a quiet, calm, cultural in every sense of the word rest in cool weather.
True, the distances here are so small that you can enjoy the charms of the north and south as part of the same holiday: you need only a few hours to drive around the island.
Playa de las Americas – the largest and most popular resort of the island. Excellent infrastructure, sandy beaches with plenty of water entertainment, an abundance of clubs and discos for every taste made it a real tourist mecca. Young people from all over the world love to live and relax here.
In the neighborhood there are no less developed, but calmer “family” Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje. The latter, until recently, was part of Playa de las Americas. But today it has become an independent resort, which is ideal for families with children and is considered the best in the Canaries in this regard. The water in the bay is always calm and calm. No noisy nightlife, but there is a water park and plenty of opportunities for hiking. Three main local beaches not only provide a full range of services, but also awarded the Blue Flag. Of the minuses – only prices that are higher than their neighbors. But Los Cristianos is more appreciated by older tourists for the unusual silence and tranquility for the south. In this city, it is pleasant to stroll through the winding streets, sit down to relax and drink wine in one of the restaurants, or maybe visit the Teide National Reserve to admire strange plants.
The secluded resorts of the south include the Costa del Silencio, the name of which speaks for itself – in translation it means “the shore of silence” – and El Médano with its long sandy beaches, winds and waves. Thanks to the latter, the region is very popular among surfers.
Puerto de la Cruz reigns in the cooler and more picturesque north of Tenerife. The oldest and one of the most sedate resorts of the island. He immediately attracts attention due to not only lush vegetation, which in the south can only dream of, or an unusually modest number of hotels, but also a special character. In Puerto de la Cruz, despite the abundance of tourists, life remains unhurried, and the tourism industry itself is somehow home-like and welcoming. The feeling is as if you did not come to the resort, but to visit relatives who are very pleased with you.
Here, in the suburbs, is located the famous Loro Park, or Parrot Park – at the same time a zoo, a botanical garden, a dolphinarium and an aquarium. One of the main attractions of the Canary Islands, which is sought to visit the vacationers of all ages – about a million people a year.
